Friendship with Nature

Der Association

Who we are
Friendship with Nature is a not-for-profit organisation that invites children and young people to reconnect with nature with an open heart. We aim to create spaces where a sense of wonder, joy and connection can flourish through vivid, moving experiences.

What drives
us One particular approach we take is ‘plant music’. It can serve as a subtle bridge to help us perceive plants in a new light: not merely as part of our surroundings, but as a living presence. Together with stories, creative projects and direct experiences of nature, this gives rise to moments that touch the soul and allow a deep connection to grow.

What we’re working towards
Our aim is to build a network of 99 schools across all continents. In this way, children worldwide will be able to experience how initial wonder turns into mindfulness, mindfulness into trust, and trust into a genuine friendship with nature – as a living foundation for a more conscious future.

TreeMuse

TreeMuse

With TreeMuse, plants can be experienced in a whole new way:
not just with the eyes, but also through sound and music.

The device was developed for use in schools and is deliberately simple to operate:
clear, straightforward and without complicated menus, so that attention can remain fully focused on the encounter with nature.

This opens up a vibrant way of engaging with the plant world, combining listening, wonder and learning in a unique way.

Children and adults experience first-hand how sound is created through contact with a plant.

The notes played are displayed both in standard musical notation and on a piano keyboard, bringing this experience to life musically as well.

Rediscover nature – through the music of plants

Reconnecting with nature means more than simply spending time in it. It means slowing down, becoming more aware, listening more intently, and rediscovering that living reality which sustains, surrounds and permeates us. In plants, trees, earth, light and rhythm, we encounter not only biological diversity, but also a deeper order of life – one that is now recognised even by biology and into which we ourselves are woven.

Plant music’ offers a special way of accessing this: subtle, audible vibrations from plants that can move us in surprising ways. Perhaps this gives rise not only to sound, but also to a new form of listening – a quiet dialogue between humans and nature.

This is made possible by sensors that detect subtle electrical changes in a plant and translate them into sounds. In this way, a living process is made audible, bringing us closer to nature in a new, mindful way and inviting us to a deeper experience.

When we started the day’s filming, heavy rain was forecast. By the time we finished, we had the most beautiful footage you could wish for – enough material for a whole documentary.
